Common Acid Reflux Remedies

Acid reflux isn’t something that you contract such as a virus or a bug. It is an illness that usually develops slowly as a result of your diet, lifestyle and what you eat. It can also be caused by poor habits such as excessive tobacco smoking, drinking and illegal drug use. Typically the symptoms are severe and chronic heartburn that does not go away with time. People who have acid reflux can also develop coughing, especially in the morning. While there is no specific cure for acid reflux there are many ways to treat it so that you might live a somewhat normal lifestyle. There are several acid reflux remedies that can be used daily with little to no ill effects.

The most common acid reflux remedies are acid reducers such as Zantac and Pepcid but there are also many natural acid reflux remedies which can be used. Sometimes with acid reflux remedies, baking soda is the best thing to use. It works by reducing acid and relieving heartburn that is associated with acid reflux disease. Being another one of the most common acid reflux remedies, apple cider vinegar is also widely regarded as a way to relieve symptoms.

Acid reflux remedies while pregnant can be even more complicated as there are not a lot of things that pregnant women can safely use. This is where things like baking soda and apple cider vinegar really come in handy. In addition, an herbal tonic made of Swedish bitter can also be used to relieve the symptoms of acid reflux disease; however, pregnant women should always clear the use of any herbal remedies with their doctors.

When considering acid reflux remedies for babies it is best not to medicate whenever possible. Most of the time simple fixes like making sure the baby has been burped properly and not stimulating him/her for at least a half an hour after feedings will help reduce the symptoms of acid reflux. In addition, breast feeding and being sure not to switch sides too swiftly can also help quite a bit where infants are concerned. Many times things like diet changes or thickening the meals too soon can contribute to infant reflux so these things should be done carefully.

Acid reflux, whether it strikes a man, woman, child or infant is a very uncomfortable condition and if left untreated for prolonged periods could lead to other more serious complications. GERD can result if acid reflux is left unattended. It is important not only to find acid reflux remedies that work for you but also to make sure and see a doctor, if for some reason the remedies you are trying do not work. Always keep in mind that acid reflux symptoms can be minimized through proper care and prevention. If something is known to cause heartburn, stay away from it if and when possible. It is always best to prevent symptoms of acid reflux rather than try to treat them when they occur.
